The Republic of Mordovia, a Russian Federation region situated in the European part of Russia, enters into the Privolzhskiy federal okrug (region). Saransk is the capital of the Republic. On January 10, 1930, the republic was formed as the Mordovia autonomous oblast (province), and on December 20, 1934, it was reorganized into the Mordovian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (ASSR). In 1991 - 1994 it was named Mordovian SSR. In 1994 it was renamed as the Republic of Mordovia. On March 30, 1995, the State Assembly (Sobranie) of Mordovia authorized the State Emblem and Flag of the republic. On September 21, 1995, the Constitutional Assembly (Sobranie) of the Republic of Mordovia adopted the acting constitution.
